Physiatry, or physical medicine and rehabilitation, is a medical specialty that involves the process of restoring function for a person disabled as a result of a musculoskeletal disease, disorder or injury. Physiatrists provide nonoperative treatment. Some have special training in performing interventional pain management procedures. Other physiatrists may perform electrodiagnostic studies, such as nerve conduction and electromyography.
