Our Outstanding Care

HealthAlliance Hospital is extremely proud to provide patients with some of the most state-of-the-art programs and technology available. Some examples are listed below.

eICU® Program
Supporting care for the critically ill patient
With the latest advances in information technology, HealthAlliance Hospital provides an extra level of specialized care to patients admitted to its 10-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU). The eICU® Program, with its enhanced voice, data and video capabilities operating around the clock, allows specially trained critical care physicians at the eICU Support Center located at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester to monitor a CCU patient’s status at HealthAlliance Hospital in real time. By helping to identify a potentially dangerous trend in a patient’s condition in the earliest stages, the eICU physician can assist the hospital’s critical care team in implementing treatment before conditions worsen.

Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE)
HealthAlliance Hospital has placed its medication and non-medication orders electronically through a newly activated computerized provider order entry (CPOE) system from Siemens Healthcare. CPOE allows HealthAlliance Hospital to address patient safety initiatives to better serve its patients and the community.

With Siemens Soarian Clinicals CPOE, HealthAlliance Hospital is:

  • Streamlining the ordering process
  • Expediting patient care
  • Reducing transcription errors
  • Reducing study duplications
  • Reducing costs by suggesting lower-priced or more effective medications

HealthAlliance Hospital is committed to leveraging clinical information technology to support our goal of delivering our patients the best and safest possible care. The CPOE system enhances our patient safety by supporting evidence-based physician practice and reducing medication errors.

Medication Administration Check
HealthAlliance Hospital implemented a new, state-of-the-art technology to ensure that patient safety and quality care are delivered each and every day. This initiative is an advanced patient safety system known as Medication Administration Check or MAK.

HealthAlliance Hospital is one of only a small percent of hospitals nationwide that have implemented this new patient safety technology.  During a patient’s stay, clinicians and pharmacists use a bar coding system that positively matches the patient with the correct medication, associates with the correct times of their administration, documents the transaction, adds the information to the electronic Medication Administration Record, verifies the dose, and checks for any potential adverse drug interactions.  As part of the pharmacy system, MAK acts as a critical communications tool between the clinician and pharmacist.

This system has been proven to reduce the risk of potential medication errors and is another example of HealthAlliance Hospital's commitment to patient safety and quality care.
